Home information: Ejemu is growing up in the village of Bugoi in rural northeastern Uganda. His family resides in Beyale, a small community within Bugoi. Ejemu lives with his grandmother and grandfather. His parents are alive, but they divorced some time ago and now live elsewhere. Ejemu has six sisters and one brother. His family supports themselves by “digging”—they grow beans, millet, and cassava to eat and to sell at market when they can. Ejemu helps at home by sweeping, collecting firewood, and fetching water.
School information: Ejemu is in P2 (primary grade 2) at the Bugoi Haven of Hope Nursery and Primary School, where he has been a student since 2018. His teachers report that he is such a good boy and loves being a student—he is always happy when he is at school. Sponsorship will fund his continued education and care.
Village information: In Bugoi, most people live in small groupings of mud huts with thatched roofs and depend on small-scale farming or gardening to feed themselves. This is often made difficult by drought, which can lead to poor harvests and famine. Families tend to be large, and many adults care for orphans in addition to their biological children. Disease, including HIV and AIDS, is common and has left many children without one or both of their parents. Poverty also keeps many children from attending school, as families struggle to meet their basic needs and afford school fees.
Prayer requests: Ejemu asks for prayer to be sponsored and continue his schooling.
