Home information:  Eunice is growing up in the rural town of Luanshya in the Copperbelt Province of Zambia. She lives with her mother and grandmother and has one younger brother. Eunice’s grandmother provides for their family through small-scale farming, but it is difficult for her to meet all of their needs.
School information:  Eunice is in grade 3 at the Haven of Hope Luanshya Primary School, where she has been a student since 2020. In Zambia, primary school lasts for seven years and is followed by five years of secondary school. Eunice’s teacher reports that she is a good student, well-behaved, and healthy. Through sponsorship, she will continue to receive an education, school supplies and uniform, meals, medical care, and Christian discipleship.
Community information:  Haven of Hope's students in Luanshya live in a number of compounds (densely populated communities). Eunice’s family resides in the Mikomfwa compound. In the compounds, unemployment and poverty rates are high, and people primarily depend on menial jobs for survival—working, for example, as garden hands, maids, and small-scale farmers. Families tend to be large and live in small houses. The compounds have been greatly afflicted by HIV and AIDS, leaving many children without one or both of their biological parents. Orphaned children are often cared for by their grandparents, aunts, or uncles; other children live in child-headed homes. Most families struggle to meet their basic needs and afford an education for their children. The language spoken by our students at home and in their community is Bemba, but they also learn English at school.
Prayer requests:  Eunice asks us to pray that she will stay healthy and do well in her studies.
