Favorite food:  Apples, rice, and potatoes
Favorite activity:  Playing ball games with her friends

Home information:  Grace is growing up in the town of Luanshya in the Copperbelt Province of Zambia. Our ministry partners in Luanshya report: “Grace lives with her mother and her stepfather, whom her mother married after her biological father passed away. Grace’s stepfather is a charcoal seller, while her mother sells vegetables. However, they greatly struggle to support their large family. Grace has three brothers and five sisters; she is the seventh born. Two of her older sisters have been married off, and the rest of her siblings are not in school because the family cannot afford it. Grace’s primary needs are schooling and nutrition. She helps her family at home by sweeping.”
School information:  Grace previously attended school for a few months, but stopped because her family was no longer able to support her education. She started grade 1 at the Blooms of Grace primary school, our partner school in Luanshya, in January 2025. Through sponsorship, she will continue to learn and play, be taught about God, and receive meals, medical care, and clothing. In Zambia, primary school lasts for seven years and is followed by five years of secondary school.
Community information:  Haven of Hope's students in Luanshya live in a number of compounds (densely populated communities). Grace’s family resides in D Compound. In the compounds, unemployment and poverty rates are high, and people primarily depend on menial jobs for survival—working, for example, as garden hands, maids, and small-scale farmers. Families tend to be large and live in small houses. The compounds have been greatly afflicted by HIV and AIDS, leaving many children without one or both of their biological parents. Orphaned children are often cared for by their grandparents, aunts, or uncles; other children live in child-headed homes. Living in poverty, most families struggle to meet their basic needs and afford school fees for their children.
Prayer requests:  Please pray that Grace will be educated and grow up to be a good person.
