Maybin

Name:  Maybin
Gender:  Boy
Reported birthdate:  March 17, 2017 (currently age 8)
Favorite food:  Nshima and sausage
Favorite activity:  Playing with toy cars
Child is happy when…  He is going to church
Child wants to be a…  Police officer
Home information:  Maybin is growing up in the town of Luanshya in the Copperbelt Province of Zambia. Our ministry partners in Luanshya report: “Maybin is an orphan and an only child who lost his parents at the tender age of two. Since then, he has been living with his grandparents, who sustain their family through subsistence farming. However, they are unable to meet all of their basic needs and put Maybin in school. They only manage to feed him, though the food they can give him is not enough either. Maybin’s primary needs are education and nutrition.”
School information:  Maybin did not previously attend school. He started grade 1 at the Blooms of Grace primary school, our partner school in Luanshya, in January 2025. Through sponsorship, he will continue to learn and play, be taught about God, and receive meals, medical care, and clothing. In Zambia, primary school lasts for seven years and is followed by five years of secondary school.
Community information:  Haven of Hope's students in Luanshya live in a number of compounds (densely populated communities). Maybin’s family resides in D Compound. In the compounds, unemployment and poverty rates are high, and people primarily depend on menial jobs for survival—working, for example, as garden hands, maids, and small-scale farmers. Families tend to be large and live in small houses. The compounds have been greatly afflicted by HIV and AIDS, leaving many children without one or both of their biological parents. Orphaned children are often cared for by their grandparents, aunts, or uncles; other children live in child-headed homes. Living in poverty, most families struggle to meet their basic needs and afford school fees for their children.
Prayer requests:  Please pray that Maybin will grow up to be a God-loving and responsible person.
